Title: Assistant State’s Attorney

Summary:

The Marion County State’s Attorney’s Office is currently seeking applicants for an assistant state’s attorney. This is a full-time position. Depending on experience, the successful candidate will be responsible for prosecuting either felony offenses or traffic and misdemeanor offenses. Some experience in criminal prosecution or defense is strongly preferred. The successful candidate must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of the Illinois Rules of Evidence and the Code of Criminal Procedure.


Description:

Individuals must be licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois and in good standing. The attorney will be prosecuting various criminal matters. Relevant and desired experience includes familiarity with preliminary hearings, motion hearings, jury/bench trials, sentencing hearings, petitions to revoke, and post-conviction petitions. The attorney can expect to be in court approximately three days per week, with the remaining days allotted for office preparation. The attorney will need to be proficient in both researching and drafting legal documents, as well as engaging in negotiations with opposing counsel and pro se litigants. It will also be necessary for the attorney to determine necessary witnesses to be subpoenaed and meet with witnesses necessary to the prosecution of said matters. Prior criminal and jury trial experience is strongly preferred. Other duties consistent with those of a small 4 attorney state’s attorney’s office (such as pay or appears, new prisoner bond hearings, mental health hearings, civil hearings, etc.) could be assigned on an as needed basis.
